Bullet-sound-bites! - 6th September, 2007

A busy time – so I thought I would provide some bullet-sound-bites of an extraordinary time.

  • Claire Short’s face beaming as she left the shop after a community dinner , she ate and conversed with everyone at the shop for over 2 hours.

  • Demal’s face when he showed me his sweet pea fully grown in his back garden (making sure none of his mates saw us)
  • The look on my face when I saw my in-box after being off line for three days !
  • The models of our physical sites for ‘Reality Estate’ arriving from artist Jamie Fowkes – 3D and ready to help all the design – made out of cornflake packets !

  • The delight and excitement turning up to one of the performance workshops to see young people climbing in and out of the kitchen ‘hatch’ at the shop creating their show for ‘Reality Estate’. Particularly as it was after a slew of dry meetings – it was so different – fun, immediate, full of life, noisy and energetic.

  • The windows of the shop filling up with young people’s work from Saturday workshops.

A sigh of relief from all when our landlords at 5ways shopping centre have offered us all the shops. This means we have a comfortable meeting place, potentially don’t have to order horrible toilet blocks too.

Never knew how much I could do until I have been doing it…. stopped watching telly so that I can get an early nights sleep – which helps with the workload!!

  • The local cafe welcoming being a local box office – so its bacon sandwiches and a ticket to ‘Reality Estate’ on the menu now.  So a big welcome to ‘Salters Cafe’ in 5ways shopping centre as part of the project/

Clive Dutton, the head of Re=generation delighted to be our project champion – which is great for the project, the shop, Birmingham, the future in the area.

Having the most extraordinary dreams of the night itself, with the most beautiful visuals.

  • Enjoying all the conversations, laughs and realisations that new collaborations bring you :- Jackie Roxborough a natural voice practitioner who is bringing unique voices to us with community choirs; Sofie Layton designer from London who makes big, small, beautiful and wild visions, Garry Jones, local artist and carnival artist who has the best grin and can transform tat into gold.. and all the new people I’ve been meeting.

A special mention of one of Mark (storor’s) workshops where a lady had brought in a tin of custard as part of a food theme talk – she so hated custard as she was forced to eat it when she was young that we covered the room in paper - she carefully opened the tin and then with wild abandon threw the custard down adding a descriptive moment to a collective painting.

More coming soon!
